Offprint from BALANCED LIVING (Dec. 1961) of a speech delivered at Quaker House in Chicago on March 15, 1956, concerning the Montgomery bus boycott. This address gives particular attention to the radical aspects of non-violent action in Montgomery. An anarchist, activist, and pacifist, Joffre was also involved in the Beat movement of the 1950s, published a volume of poetry and is mentioned by name in Allen Ginsberg's HOWL ("with big pacifist eyes sexy in their dark skin passing out incomprehensible leaflets"). Scarce, with just three holdings in OCLC.
