A landmark history of world cinema, the standard-bearer in the UK for four decades, going through multiple updates and editions. Rotha was well acquainted with international film currents, having met with Eisenstein and Richter, visited the UFA studios in Berlin and worked at British International Pictures, and was committed to cinema as a "valuable medium of dramatic expression." A striking modernist design, the book is bound in a craphic cloth with striking geometric endpapers and was originally wrapped in an avant-garde jacket designed by Rotha himself (though this one has perished) [Viejo, 10.1].
