THE BLOWN MIND is presented in three parts, one by each individual artist and the middle section a collaborative effort. Along with the preceding work GROPE, a collaboration between the two artists and Peter Forakis, THE BLOWN MIND is among the earliest comics we’ve seen to exhibit a non-commercial, “underground” aesthetic (albeit mixed with a fine art influence). While more reserved than the over-the-top counterculture aesthetics associated with underground comix, THE BLOWN MIND clearly exhibits a prescient style that would soon come to fuller fruition in the work of R. Crumb and others.
